The curriculum

Why Cambridge YLE

English is not memorised vocabulary. It is an ability a child keeps for life — and that is what this system is built to produce.

Cambridge YLE was developed by the University of Cambridge. What separates it from a conventional cram school is what it measures: whether a child can use the language, not whether they can pass a paper.

What the system actually values

  • Using English, not reciting it
  • Listening, speaking, reading and writing developed together
  • Keeping a child interested enough to continue
  • Building ability that lasts, not a score that expires

Placed by ability, not by age

Parents notice this quickly: two ten-year-olds can be several years apart in English. So SOP places children by the level they are actually at, and moves them when they are ready.

A lot of talking, every day

The common problem across Asia is a child who can write the answer but will not say it out loud. So the day is built around output:

  • Question and answer
  • Role play
  • Situational practice
  • Language games
  • Small-group discussion
  • Reading aloud

Thinking in English, not translating into it

Traditional teaching leaves a child permanently routed through their first language. Cambridge lessons push for direct understanding — and thinking in English is what fluency eventually rests on.

Confidence is part of the syllabus

Most children who dislike English are not bad at it. They have been corrected too often and compared too often. Cambridge YLE is deliberately encouragement-led:

  • A sense of achievement at the end of every stage
  • Confidence and the willingness to speak
  • Motivation that survives after the trip ends
  • Which matters more than a temporary rise in a test score

Why it works particularly well here

  • A hotel-standard campus downtown — comfortable and safe, so the child can concentrate on learning
  • Teacher training — speaking English is not the same as teaching it, and we treat classroom management as a skill
  • Mostly one-to-one; group classes capped at six, so every child speaks
  • An international environment where English continues outside the classroom
  • A parent-and-child option: separate classes, shared progress
  • Recruitment commission redirected into teaching equipment and resources

What we are actually trying to produce

A child who will speak English without being asked, think in it, make friends in it, and use it to learn about the world.

That is the reason SOP uses Cambridge YLE rather than a course of our own design.

Thinking about your child's first trip?

Tell us their age and how much English they already have. We will tell you honestly which level they would start at and what four weeks can realistically change.
